2016’s Venue – Doncaster Racecourse
The 2016 Ryman National Enterprise Challenge final was held at Doncaster Racecourse, supported by Kingswood, on Wednesday 29th June. The event saw the winning teams from over 120 schools come together to compete against each other. Over 35,000 students have taken part this year and have worked on challenges set by Ryman (KS4) and Kingswood (KS3).
High street retailer and stationery giant, Ryman set students the task of coming up with the best school based business, as their owner and former dragon’s den star Theo Paphitis got his first taste of business at school, whilst running the school tuck shop. The Winners of this challenge were Northampton Academy and their idea ‘Vendinary’.
Outdoor education specialists Kingswood set students the task of coming up with a new attraction for their Dearne Valley centre in Yorkshire. The idea had to come with its very own learning objectives and a unique design. The Winners of this challenge were Guernsey Grammar School and their idea ‘King of the Jungle’.
This years finals was hosted by children’s TV legends Dick & Dom, the duo welcomed our winning teams onto the stage and kept the audience entertained throughout the day.
There was also a guest speech from Michael ‘Eddie’ Edwards aka Eddie the Eagle, following on from the biopic that hit our cinemas this year, ‘Eddie’ came to the finals to tell his story first hand and to show the students that if you want something enough – then anything really is possible.
