“Smiler” doesn’t disappoint for TNEC winners
Alton Towers gave a thrilling VIP experience to the two winning groups from The National Enterprise Challenge 2013.
On Friday the 18th of October the team from Youth Enterprise travelled down to Alton Towers along with the key stage 3 winners Sirius Academy from Hull and the key stage 4 winners Strood Academy from Kent. On arrival everyone received express parking, free entry and the VIP Smiler experience.
The day began with a presentation from Steve Davies (Operations Manager) about how Alton Towers developed their new 18 million pound rollercoaster ‘Smiler’. Steve gave details about the design, marketing and construction of the ride to the eager students, who were bursting with excitement to ride the ‘Smiler’. Whilst watching the presentation everybody indulged in refreshments and prepared themselves for the experience.
Following the Smiler presentation the group headed down to the ride and the VIP treatment continued, which meant having the privilege of being the very first riders of the day. Harry Knight from Sirius Academy said, “The ride was amazing, my overall experience of The National Enterprise Challenge and today has been something that I will never forget.”
After enjoying the 14 loop world record masterpiece, everyone received a bundle of priority passes which completed the VIP treatment giving them fast track access to beat the queues for the rest of the day.
Director of Youth Enterprise Ben Dyer commented, “The day has been thoroughly enjoyed by everyone involved, what a fantastic prize this has been for the two winning groups. I would like to thank Alton Towers for their hospitality and we look forward to working with them again in the near future. Myself and the team are looking forward to this year’s challenge and discovering the next TNEC Winners”
